The Development of Domestic Zinc Alloy
Both new long-s metal zinc alloys and conventional babbitt alloys can be used to make plain bearings, and the manufacturing cost is much lower than that of babbitt. Long-s metal is called a new anti-friction alloy. More people are used to calling it a new type of bearing alloy.
In 1982, the Shenyang Foundry Research Institute, the focal point of the national foundry technology, introduced the long-s metal ZA27 zinc alloy in the American ASTM B791-1979 standard. After nearly two years of digestion and absorption, the ZA27-2 bearing alloy was developed. This marks the beginning of the development of China's new anti-friction alloy.
In 1985, with the support of Ms. Chen Shuzhi, the deputy governor of Liaoning Province, and the relevant leadership of the Shenyang Foundry Research Institute, the Shenyang Bearing Materials Research Institute, which consists of the technical backbone of the Shenyang Foundry Research Institute, was established. Shenyang Bearing Materials Research Institute specializes in the introduction of foreign long-s metal technology to promote the development and promotion of domestic "Long's Alloy" technology.
In 1991, Shenyang Bearing Materials Research Institute first developed a high-aluminum-zinc-based ZA303 alloy material based on the zinc-based ZA27-2 alloy. This achievement solved the shortcomings of ZA27-2 low temperature brittleness, and passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal of Shenyang Science and Technology Commission. Since then, "Long alloy" technology has carried out extensive diffusion and technical exchanges in major universities and research institutes in China, which has promoted the rapid development of China's "Long alloy".
